New Hall School marked National Careers Week with a range of activities designed to inspire pupils and help them explore future career pathways. Through talks, challenges and real-world experiences, students were encouraged to reflect on their talents and interests, and how these might develop into fulfilling careers. Several Old Fishes returned for a visit and generously shared their journeys and inspired current students.
Pupils in the Preparatory Division enjoyed a number of careers-focused activities, encouraging them to discover the many different careers in the world of work. Across the Senior Divisions, students gained first-hand experience of the professional world. Year 10 students took part in a Mock Interview Day, practising interview skills with visiting professionals and building confidence for future applications. Year 9 students met local employers at a careers networking event, while Year 8 students developed their entrepreneurial thinking through the Bright Future Entrepreneurship Challenge and Year 7 students took part in the National Careers Challenge.
We were delighted to welcome Old Fish Dr Dan Perry, who gave up his time to meet with one of our aspiring medics. For Sixth Form students and their families, the Post-18 Pathways Evening offered guidance on options after school, including university, apprenticeships and other routes into employment. Old Fish Drew Mead delivered an inspiring talk about his experience choosing a degree apprenticeship over the traditional university route.
Alongside National Careers Week events, the School continues to run its popular Careers Breakfasts, where industry experts speak with students about their professional journeys and offer advice about entering their fields. Recent speakers have included Old Fish Antonia Rankin, a former New Hall student who is now a motorsports TV Presenter and Content Creator, who spoke about her career in journalism and working within international motorsport, and Old Fish Ayo Agunbiade, who shared about his career in personal wealth management, offering students practical insights into what he wishes he had known during school.
Welcoming back former students is always a special experience for students. Their stories help inspire confidence, broaden horizons, and remind our current students that their own future pathways are full of potential.
Our Careers Breakfast Networking Events take place on Friday mornings from 8.00am to 8.45am, and we are always eager to welcome more alumni who would like to share their experiences. If you would be interested in taking part, please contact Julie Hilliker, Heads of Careers and Vocations, j.hilliker@newhallschool.co.uk.
