The Year 13 leaving class of 2014 returned for the annual 'One Year On' event
"Ozzy Ozzy Ozzy!" Shouted the Old Boys XV following their victory over the New Hall School 1st XV, in what will become the first annual Oliver Osgood Memorial Rugby Match. Huddled together, each member of the team sporting Oliver’s number 2 on their shirts, it was a touching moment of an overall bittersweet occasion. Parents, staff and students (both old and new) came not only to reminisce over their time at New Hall School, discover how the school has changed in their absence and catch up after a year apart, but it was also an opportunity to remember and honour the memory of Oliver Osgood, a former New Hall School student who tragically lost his life earlier this year whilst abroad in Australia on a gap year.
The ‘One Year On’ event has always been a special day in the school calendar, and the 2015 event was no exception. The atmosphere, although reflective for the occasion, was buzzing with a sense of community and belonging. Old New Hallians laughed and joked sharing stories of their time at New Hall School, what they had done in the last year, (whether that been further education, work or travel) and where they see themselves going from here (even if it was just into town to continue the festivities!).
The anticipation prior to the Old Boys Rugby Match was palpable, with both teams having something to prove, but ultimately was an exciting and well-fought match played in the right spirit, and hugely entertaining for the many spectators in attendance.
Following Oliver’s mother Veronica awarding the Oliver Osgood Memorial Shield to Casey Morgan (seen below representing the Old Boys), everyone reconvened in the North Room for informal drinks and a BBQ, with musical entertainment provided by Old New Hallians who played with Oliver during his time at school.
As the day drew to a close, we were left with the knowledge that despite time and distance, it was wonderful to know that given the opportunity and united under a common goal, the future for New Hall School’s former students looks bright.
Many thanks to everyone for helping make the ‘One Year On 2015’ event such a special occasion.
